What to expect from the Santa Eulalia celebration?
The Fiestas de Santa Eulalia – the celebration of Saint Eulàlia’s day, one of Barcelona’s patron saints, is one of the most important festivals in Barcelona. It is also known as the big winter celebration (Fiesta Mayor de Invierno) and has all features of a typical Catalan festival. It is so important for Catalans because it celebrates one of the co-patrons of the city – Santa Eulalia.
The celebration is taking place 9 – 12 of February around different locations of the Ciutat Vella. There will be a parade with giants and other fantasy characters, Sardana folk dancers, Correfoc fire-runs and the famous Castellers or human towers. The program of activities offers much more than that, let the city surprise you.
Friday, February 9th, get ready for the parade towards Santa Maria del Mar with traditional Àliga dances. Saturday 10th, the festival will offer numerous dancing shows and traditional activities around the area. On Sunday 11th, starting from the early morning, the streets of the Gothic Quarter will be filled with music. Head to the Plaza de Sant Jaume first and then go with the flow, as thoriughout the day, you will witness different musical shows and parades.
Until the very Saturday 17th, you will be able to participate in different fun activities, check them out in the official program.
